TADD FUJIKAWA
To make history in one of the most conservative sports, Tadd Fujikawa took to a modern platform- Instagram. On September 28, 2018, the Japanese golfer came out on Instagram, where he has also been candid about dealing with depression and anxiety in the past.
At 15, he first made history as the youngest male ever to qualify for the US Open. By coming out at 27, he is now the first openly gay male professional golfer, adding his sport to a growing list with queer men competing in their most elite ranks. Since coming out, Fujikawa, who considers himself a shy introvert, has not been reticent about discussing his personal life, including having never visited a gay bar, being a virgin, and navigating the world as gay Christian.
